tony farmer

summary: tony farmer was sentenced to 3 years in jail. however, instead of being in the judges court, he could of been in a basketball court. he was an 18 year old famous basketball player. he chose the wrong by kidnapping, robbing, and so on. Now he will be spending 3 years in jail.

reflection: i believe you are entitled to do what you want in your life. others should not be judged. however if you choose the wrong unfortunately you will be the center of attention. and that is not for the good it is for the bad and disgusting things you have done. i would have thought about my future if i were him. he could of been playing on the NBA but now hes just in JAIL.

Student Success Statement
"Tell me what is right and i will fight for it"
Woodrow Wilson

reflection: i believe that it is right to fight when you believe in something. fight for yourself or others but fight for what is right. for example fighting for gay marriage. i believe everyone has the same equal rights, so why not let them be married? people will fight for this because they believe it is right to have and be married.

"disciplining yourself to do what you know is right and important although difficult is the highroad to pride self-esteem and personal satisfaction"
Margaret Thatcher
i believe that Margaret means is that you should know  what is wrong and right. you should always commit to yourself in the way that you can always do what is right. although it is difficult, you should always do what is right.

summary: a couple had kidnapped a young girl. for 6 years the girl was allowed to go to school. but after that she had to go straight to the bathroom. the bathroom? yes.... The parents were charged with child abduction and child endanger.
reflection: i believe you get what you deserve. and those "Parents" deserved it. who would do such a thing? it is disturbing and completely wrong. Poor little girl, is what kept going throguh my mind. having nothing to do but be in the restroom. They chose the wrong and they are going to pay for it.

Student success statement
“Have the courage to say no. have the courage to face the truth. Do the right thing because it is right. These are the (3) magic keys to living your life with integrity.”
W. Clement Stone

Reflection: I believe that every person should live up to their standards. You should not do what you do not want to do. Always tell the truth to whomever because they always deserve to know the truth. And besides if you decide to tell the truth then you will feel good inside because you chose the right. Lastly, always doing the right because you should always do the right. For example I have the courage to say no to drugs even if all my friends do it. I tell the truth when it is needed to be told. Lastly, I choose the right because I want to be successful in life.

summary& reflection

summary: A man in the 30's or 40's stole money from the downtown Seattle sears. he has to live with the guilt for 60 years. then he finally had to confess. he went to the same sears 60 years later and payed the sears the amount he stole and interest.

Reflection: I believe all of this could of been prevented. He chose the wrong and he had to live with the guilt all his lifetime. he suffered and payed the price. although, he did choose the right by returning the money. he still chose the wrong by stealing it in the first place. i believe that i am not capable of stealing because my parents have taught me that if i want something that i must work for it.

Student success statement
“Nobody ever did, or ever will, escape the consequences of his choices.”
Albert A. Montapert
Reflection: I believe that what you choose to do is on you. If you choose to do badly in school then you will get bad grades therefore you have not escaped your consequence. If you choose to good in school then your consequences will have a positive affect towards you.

student success statement
"Its better to be alone than to be in bad company."
ANON
reflection: this means it is better to be yourself than to try to fit in with the crowd. in example would be, when you are at home studying and you're "friends" ask you let's go to party. and you would go and drink, do drugs etc. that is plain wrong and disturbing. you should have stayed at home studying and choosing the right. you're friends are the bad company; therefore it is better to be alone at least you'll know you're not doing anything wrong.

Successful students
10
10. . . . successful students are good time managers. Successful students do not procrastinate. They have learned that time control is life control and have consciously chosen to be in control of their life.
An elemental truth: You will either control time or be controlled by it! It’s your choice: you can lead or be led, establish control or relinquish control, steer your own course or follow others. Failure to take control of their own time is probably the no. 1 study skills problem for college students. It ultimately causes many students to become non- students. Procrastinators are good excuse makers. Don’t make academic harder on yourself than it already it has to be. And don’t wait until tomorrow to do it!
The 10 items listened above are paraphrased from an article by Larry M Ludewig called ten commandments for effective study skills which appeared in the Teaching Professor, December, 1992.

Successful students
9
9 . . . . Don’t cram for exams. Successful students know that divided periods of study method are more effective than cram sessions, and they practice it.
If there is one thing that study skills specialist agree on, it is that distributed study is better than massed, late-night, last-ditched efforts known as cramming. You’ll learn more remember more and earn higher grade by studying in four hours straight on Thursday night. Short, concentrated preparatory efforts are more efficient and rewarding than wasteful, inattentive, last moment marathons. Yet, so many students fail to learn this lesson and end up repeating it over and over again until it becomes a wasteful habit. Not too clever huh?
When you cram you are taking the shortcut, and shortcuts never produce any real worthwhile results. Also, when you take shortcuts, you feel rather rotten knowing that you could have done better but didn’t. Shortcuts cut you short. You can’t plant watermelon seeds and harvest fresh watermelons the next day. It takes time. Cramming for a test or a project and expecting to make it a high score the next day is like planting watermelons seed and expecting to harvest and eat fresh watermelon the next day. Plus cramming for a test and project doesn’t help you academically, so why even do it. Plan ahead, prepare ahead. Give yourself plenty of days and weeks to prepare for upcoming accountability opportunities.

Student success statement
“What’s right isn’t always popular. What’s popular isn’t always right”
Howard Cosell

Reflection: This is a great example to everyone and anyone who is judgmental and a bully. Another example is when students don’t choose to do their homework. Doing your homework is the right thing to do however it isn’t always the popular choice. By following everyone and trying to be cool, that isn’t right. This quote inspires me to always choose the right. This quote means that even though you might feel like an outcast, you are still doing the correct thing. And when you know you have done something bad just to fit in, now that is not the right thing.

student success statement
"I shall pass through this life but once. any good therefore that i can do, or any kindness i can show, let me do it know. let me not defer or neglect it, for i shall never pass this way again."
Etienne de Grellet

reflection: I believe this is a quote everyone should take into consideration. what this quote means to me is that you only live once and while you are alive make sure to choose the right and to always make the best out of what is coming towards you. never should a person neglect helping others or just being kind to others. why because when you come to earth you only come once, however when you are about to leave earth, you will regret all the wrong you did and all the harm you caused  do what is right, because you only live once and you will never again be alive to change what you've done wrong.

student success statement 12-10-12

Student success statement 12/10/12

“Light and darkness can’t occupy the same space at the same time. CTR is light-CTW is darkness.”

Call/Haymore

Reflection: I believe this quote is very straight forward. It is truthful. Why because you can’t be choosing the right when you’re choosing the wrong. Just like light can’t be where darkness is. Therefore you should always choose the right.

Student Success Statement 12-07-12

Student Success Statement
“There is no pillow so soft as a clear conscience”
French Proverb
Reflection: I believe this means that the only way you can actually relax and live life joyfully is when you have done nothing wrong. To me a person cannot live or sleep with a mind full of guilt. Therefore, your conscience, your conscience must be clear in order for you to relax and have a goodnight sleep.

I Will Persist Until I Succeed
Part 2
How I’ve overcome an initial bad grade: when receiving a bad grade, I just try to do better in the second exam and study harder. It’s hard when you have first test in a class and have no idea what to expect. The second one is usually easier since you know what to expect from your teachers.
My strategies for written assignments: Start early and make sure that you have it proofread. Also, with written assignments, having a timeline planned out can help like by setting a certain number of pages done by a certain day before the paper is due.
How I succeed in team projects: COMMUNICATION!!! Despite your group synergy, communication is crucial. I remember I ran out of cell phone minutes constantly when working on a group project for my marketing research class. It’s very important that everyone is on the same page and getting the same emails. The worst is when two people are working on the same portion of the project and don’t even realize it.

sumamry and reflection 11-14-12

California Schoolgirl is killed in a School Fight Summary and Reflection:

Summary: This article is about 2 little girls who were the same age and grade. Both of them decided they would “Get down” in an alley. Why? This was because both little 10 year olds were going to fight for a boy. After the fight, they returned to what they always do. one of the little girls was taken to the hospital. She had to have surgery in her brain because she had a blood clot in her brain. She was still alive, when all of a sudden her heart stop, they could no longer bring her back to live. She was dead because of a fight over a boy.

Reflection: I actually have heard about this in the news. When I first saw it in the news my reaction was very surprised. I couldn’t believe that an innocent 10 year old had died due to a fight. However, later on as I read I found out that she wasn’t as innocent as I though. Both little girls had agreed to this. This must be very hard for her parents and family and friends. However the one who is going to be dealing with this guilt all their live is going to be the little girl who murdered her. I feel sympathy for her parents the most.

summary + reflection 11-1-12

Summary: this article was about 2 young men who chose the wrong. These 2 young men were from Purdue University. They chose the wrong by being at a bar at 3 am. they were too drunk and causing trouble so they were asked to leave. When they came back one of them Kelsey Barlow, was angry and made more disturbance. Kelsey Barlow was then kicked out the team and the 2nd guy D.J Byrd was suspended.

Reflection: I believe that these 2 young men chose the wrong. If I were the main person who ran then school I would of kicked them out. Why because, what kind of person throws away all they have just for some alcohol or beer? I know better, if you’re in college and playing basketball you’re going to be successful, so that was the dumb mistake those two men did.  dropbox link

be wise never use alcohol or drugs

“Be Wise- Never use Drugs or Alcohol”

Parents have taught me to stay in school and pay attention to my studies. They told me often since I am in high school that people will try to pressure me into things. They said if I didn’t want to do them, that that was fine. They also told me to never do them because people who use drugs and alcohol are a waste of space. They will not be successful or bright. I’ve always wanted to try it but I know that if I do I might get addicted to it so that always stops me. I am wise and I know that drugs and alcohol abuse can kill you or even leave you to that point of almost dying. It is important to know what the risks are if you do consume any drugs or alcohol. My older sister goes to UC Irvine, she is my role model. She doesn’t drink or does drugs. She is wise because she is in college and just wants to focus on school. Someone who has been consuming alcohol and drugs for a very long time should get the help that they need to stop. When I was a young child my grandpa used to drink every single day nonstop. Until this day when he got really sick, he decided to stop. That was wise of him because he chose the right after a long period of time. Teenagers think they are cool because they drink and get High. I just think that when they are making their lives a waste of time I am focusing on school and knowing I am going to be successful. The importance of never drinking or consuming alcohol and drugs is you will live a healthier life than others. Lastly if you don’t do any of these you have chosen the right, which makes you feel better as a person.
